H.R. 3579, the bill "Making Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for the Fiscal Year ending September 30,1998" was signed into law. P.L. 105-174. It includes a number of Indian related spending measures. They are as follows:
- $700,000 under BIA construction to repair damage caused by floods and other
natural disasters.
- $365,000 under BIA construction for replacement of fixtures and testing for and
remediation of PCB's in BIA schools and administrative facilities.
- $6.7 million for activities related to the litigation involving individual
Indian trust fund accounts.
- $100,000 under the Indian Health Service for suicide prevention counseling.

The Conference Committee on H. R. 3579, the bill, "Making Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for the Fiscal Year ending September 30, 1998" eliminated a Senate amendment (Sec. 409) relating to the promulgation and issuance of certain Indian gaming regulations (Enzi amendment).
March 11, 1998 -
S. 1605 (introduced by Senator Campbell 2/4/98) passed the U.S. Senate by unanimous consent. S. 1605 will establish a matching grant program to help States, units of local government, and Indian tribes to purchase armor vests for use by law enforcement officers.
