WASHINGTON D.C. –
The U.S. Senate Indian Affairs Committee will conduct a legislative hearing on two Indian water rights settlement bills at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 22. The two bills are S. 2956, the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Mission Indians Water Rights Settlement Act, and S. 3290, the Blackfeet Water Rights Settlement Act of 2010.
The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Mission Indian tribe is located in southern California. The Blackfeet tribe is located in north-central Montana.
At the hearing the committee will examine the background and surrounding issues involved in each bill. It will take testimony from tribal, state and non-Indian water users.
