Senator Tom Udall: Advancing Priorities for Indian Country
WASHINGTON — Today, the office of U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.), vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, released a comprehensive document highlighting Udall’s accomplishments advancing the priorities of Native communities and Indian Country during his Senate career. In 2019, Udall announced that he would not seek a third term in the U.S. Senate.

“It has been my honor to represent New Mexico’s 23 Tribes and Pueblos in Congress, and to work alongside leaders and advocates from the United States’ 574 federally-recognized Tribes, fighting for a prosperous, healthy, and safe future for Native communities,” Udall said. “Together, we have made great strides reinforcing the principles of Tribal sovereignty and self-determination, supporting Native economies and health care, and protecting and sustaining Native cultural resources and languages. The United States has a solemn obligation to uphold its trust and treaty responsibilities, and as the 116th Congress concludes, I will continue to work alongside American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians to ensure that the federal government is living up to its promises to Native communities across the country.”
