Udall to Preside as Vice Chairman at Senate Committee on Indian Affairs Business Meeting and Oversight Hearing

WASHINGTON — Tomorrow, May 17, at 12:30 p.m. MT / 2:30 p.m. ET, U.S. Senator Tom Udall, vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, will join Committee Chairman John Hoeven (R-N.D.) in leading a business meeting to review several bills related to Indian Country, including a Udall-cosponsored bill, the Native Educator Support and Training (NEST) Act. The NEST Act creates new scholarships and additional professional development opportunities, and expands loan forgiveness programs to support the recruitment and retention of educators in Indian Country schools. Udall will offer an amendment to support early childhood education for Native children by expanding scholarship programs to include preschool educators.
