Congress Passes Bill for Susanville Indian Rancheria

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, praised Congress’ passage of H.R.2212, a bill to take certain federal lands located in Lassen County, California, into trust for the benefit of the Susanville Indian Rancheria, and for other purposes. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA-1). The bill passed the House of Representatives on Nov. 30, 2015.

The bill is the same as S. 1761, which passed the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs on Oct. 21, 2015, and was sponsored by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

“Tribes know what is best for their communities,” said Chairman Barrasso. “Taking this land into trust on behalf of the Susanville Indian Rancheria will empower the tribe to use the lands as they best see fit.”
