Hoeven: Committee Passes California Tribal Land Bill

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, today announced the committee has passed H.R. 597, the Lytton Rancheria Homelands Act of 2017.

“This legislation would take 511 acres of land owned by the Lytton Rancheria of California into trust for the benefit of the tribe,” said Hoeven. “The trust status of the land would facilitate tribal housing and economic development opportunities for their community.”

The legislation, sponsored by Representative Jeff Denham (R-CA-10), passed the House of Representatives on July 11, 2017. The committee held a legislative hearing on the bill on April 25, 2018.
