Hoeven Statement on Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch as the next associate justice of the United States Supreme Court:
“I am confident that Judge Gorsuch will serve our nation honorably and defend the Constitution in this distinguished role on the Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch, who also hails from a western state, has a demonstrated understanding of the unique legal principles involved in federal Indian law. More importantly, Judge Gorsuch has upheld the constitutional principle that Congress is the federal entity ultimately empowered to address the unique issues involving Indian tribes.
“He will be a fair associate justice for all of America, including Indian Country. I look forward to hearing more from Judge Gorsuch as he participates in the nomination process.”
